While it may be evident that I am exceedingly young for the aged nature of politics, I know that this perspective I carry with me, in it’s brevity, addresses the dilemma of inheritance. The youth of our day are brought into a world they did not make, then rally together to play the hand they were given. One day, they may imagine their world to be different, somehow changed, but realize the difficulty there is in changing it. This is how I began.
If not in a successful campaign would I inspire the new era of mankind to take the reigns of their laws, policies, and trade, then by my very presence here in this mayoral election—the aspirations I harbor and the pursuit of them. I know many great minds younger than I, whose dreams pierce the heavens in grandeur. And I have seen these dreams crumble to the expectations of a comfortable, safe life. The pursuit is risk itself, to exhaust our effort in herculean tasks. I offer the dream back to the disheartened, a chance to change the world in the brilliance of their youth.
But how? And why?
As Provo’s mayor, a top priority is to incentivize the development of resident-founded businesses, to lower working hours, to rework zoning laws near social hubs, and to prepare for a sustainable and self-sufficient future using the technology already developed. I envision a supportive and advanced Provo that pays respect to our traditions and paves the way for the new era. Rather than dreaming of one day, let’s start now.
